Why did I consider getting this Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Stains?
My crush with Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Stains started earlier this year when I tried some around Valentine’s day, and wrote my first post about them. I am a proud owner/fan/user of several different ones nowadays, so I was very eager to try these!
Where can you get this?
What did I find in the package?
They all come as a jumbo pencil that you twist up to expose the lipstick to use. There’s no sharpening required at all which is great. At some point you lose the initial shape and it becomes a blunt or more flat point. Take a look at the pictures below to see what I’m talking about. It goes on perfectly though, so that’s never a problem. You get net 3 g / 0.10 Oz with each specific pencil.
Note: Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Stains can be the hardest things to open in the entire world (at least in my own world, ha ha). It’s like the cap is suctioned onto the tube! I had a case where when I eventually got it open, the tip of the pencil broke off! My husband tried to open one of them for a long time, it was just very difficult for me (I know, I know.. what a wimp right?).
There are at least three different kinds of LipSurgences that I’m aware of: Lip Luster, Lip Tint and Matte Lip Tint.. Basically, each group has different colors and finishes.
Lip Luster – They have a shimmery finish. Some shades have glitter and you can feel it when you rub your lips together. These go on rather sheer as well which means you will have to apply to build color up.
Matte Lip Tint – This is my favorite kind of LipSurgence. Even though it may be a bit dry after application, I absolutely love all the colors in this line. The pigmentation is fantastic and the colors vibrant and beautiful.
Lip Tint – Original lip tint which I believe were an extension to the cheek stains.
Keep in mind that these will NOT stain your lips more so like a lip stain. I have no idea why they named them lip tint because there’s no stain. I find the name kind’a of misleading.
From tarte™ cosmetics’ website, this is the product description:
As a follow up to tarte’s best-selling LipSurgence™ natural lip tints, these shimmering lip lusters give a high dose of color and shine in an easy twist-up stick. Just like the original, tarte’s LipSurgence™ technology delivers a surge of moisture on a cellular level for a naturally plumped up appearance while natural peppermint adds a refreshing burst of flavor with each application.
jojoba seed oil: easily absorbed, leaving skin soft, supple and smooth
peppermint oil: cools and soothes inflammed or irritated skin
vitamin C: antioxidant that fights free radical damage and prevents oxidative stress and premature signs of aging, while brightening skin
vitamin E: natural preservative that also acts as an anti-inflammatory emollient and protects against free radical damage
These lip tints are formulated without paraben, phthalates, cruelty free, sodium lauryl sulfate and synthetic fragrance.
tarte™ makes a claim that these lip tints are clinically proven: 6000% increase in lips’ moisture content in 28 days! You judge the claim for yourself…
Here are some pictures of the Tarte LipSurgence Lipsticks I currently own:
Envy – mauve berry (matte)
Lucky – medium tone pink (matte)
Exposed – light sheer pink (matte)
Pouty – perfect strawberry color with glitter (luster)
Moody – brown earthy color (lip tint)
Sweet (limited edition) – light coral color with glitter (luster)
What is the Verdict?
Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Stains are definitely some of my favorite lip products. I LOVE the colors and the infused peppermint oil in them.
I do wish their packaging was a bit better. That cap getting sucked into the tub is not fun at all. I feel they could actually re do the packing, something like the MAC Mattene lipsticks package which could actually fit very nicely in my pocket (ok, in my husband’s pocket).
They are really blend-able. You can also apply a lipgloss on top, or even mix with other lipsticks if you’d like.
The claim about 6000% increase in lip moisture? I don’t know about that. Maybe if you live in the Nevada desert and your lips are like cracked stone.
I think it comes down to personal preference. With the cosmetics market packed with so many different lipsticks in so many different colors and formulas, why would you choose to buy these particular ones? You really have to fall in love with the colors for them to be totally worth it.
