Why did I bother getting this?
I was checking out Kevin James’ In my kit guide and read his opinion about the Graftobian lipstick palettes. I already owned a couple of other Graftobian products and decided to try this palette as well given that I really like Graftobian quality. There were three different lipsticks palettes Graftobian offered when I looked them up: Cool, Fashion and Specialty shades. Kevin mentions that if you were to only get one, you should get the fashion palette for the awesome neutral colors.. and I think he was so right.
Kevin James is a multiple Emmy Award winner and nominee. He is very well respected in the industry, having a very extensive and diverse career in photography, TV, runways, and more recently as a contributor to very well respected make-up sites. I confess to spending way too much time in his In My Kit site!
Where did I get it?
What did I find in the package?
I love the packing for this one. It’s slim and compact, perfect to fit anywhere, even if you just need something for quick touch-ups. It’s not flimsy or cheap. Here’s what you get out of the box…
You get 5 colors in the palette, which are (from left to right above):
- Sandalwood – A nude brown color
- Kiss Me – A warm, muted pink
- Autumn Rust – A pinkish/peachy/beige color
- Dorothy – A warm orange/brown (It reminds me of fall colors)
- Ebony – A dark chocolate brown
Time to try it. What did it do for me?
This palette has absolutely beautiful, creamy, long lasting earthy color shades!!! “Do I need to say more???
According to some product description online, they contain emollients (skin softener/moisturizer stuff – I googled it :-) ) and waxes to give them some “staying power that won’t fade”. And seriously, I have applied these lipsticks and have put them through drinking, eating, and kissing tests, and after those, even though I can’t saw I see the shiny original color coming through, I can see a very good resemblance of the shade. They give me beautiful coverage and a rich color payoff. The pigmentation of these shades is amazing, so a little goes a long way. You can get so much mileage out of them. I think they would be very versatile for the makeup artist with clients of different complexions. They are blend-able, durable and an I think an overall excellent quality product!
One of my favorite features is, you can use each shade by itself or you can try mixing them to create even more colors! With 5 different shades, that’s a lot of colors to play with.
One thing that could be better is that sometimes I feel they could get a bit dry after a while so I go ahead and blend these out with glosses to create a more sheer look and to keep my lips hydrated and shiny. I usually apply these with my fingers (clean fingers, of course!) but I realize that if I use a lip brush I get a more precise application.
I will soon upload some shots here while trying out the different lipstick shades, stay tuned!
What is the Verdict?
This palette is a REALLY good find. I love the colors, the formula, and the overall versatility of the product. I can wear these shades in many different ways. I either wear them by themselves, mix and match the shades, or wear with glosses. What else can I ask for from a single humble lipstick palette??
These are the only lipsticks that I own right now (I know, I know, I need to go and do some shopping lol), but I don’t feel I’m missing anything. Because I can get so many colors, I feel like I’m set with lipsticks. The packaging is so slim that it can be squeezed anywhere, so I always have my 5+ shades everywhere I go. These lipsticks yield long lasting, durable lip color. The price tag of $24 bucks makes this palette very affordable, so it’s a keeper!
And the best feature of all… they are fragrance free!! Yay for unscented lipsticks… my hubby definitely agrees with that! I really recommend this palette.
