Why did I consider getting the MAC Desert Camouflage Face Kit?
The beautiful browns included in this Carine Roitfeld collection from MAC got my attention immediately. MAC described this Carine Roitfeld collection as
Carine Roitfeld elevated the smoky eye to an art form. For her M·A·C collaboration, Carine edits her look into a collection of chic colours and tools for recreating her aesthetic. Full Face Kit contain four Eye Shadows and Cremeblend Blush, Eye Brows in Brunette, Kohl Power Eye Pencil, Fluidline, 49 Lash and two Mascaras. Tropical Mist Lipstick, Face and Body Foundation, Mineralize Concealer, Nail Lacquer and Brushes create the perfect backdrop for dramatic eyes.
How could we resist, when we’re all looking for dramatic eyes!

What did I find in the package?
This square palette is all sleek black and has the initials of Carine Roitfeld engraved in the front. Once opened you find a mirror on the top lid, and two different trays. The top tray has 4 eyeshadows and the lower one a cremeblend blush. Each eyeshadow contains 0.22 oz and the cremeblend blush contains 0.18 oz. I really like the compact’s sleek design.
Time to try it. What did it do for me?
There are two palettes released with this Carine Roitfeld collection from MAC, Desert Camouflage and Jungle Camouflage. I think Desert Camouflage is the better quality of the two palettes. One eyeshadow has great pigmentation (Sahada Dust) , and the other 3 are decent. Cactus Thorn, Desert and Carbon require layering to get an even application. Sahara Dust reminds me of Ricepaper but a lot less pigmented and less golden. Desert is my favorite shade color but unfortunately, it doesn’t apply evenly.
The Cremeblend Blush Sand Storm is a soft tan color with dewy finish. Once the cream sets it becomes matte. I personally really like this color to warm or perk up the skin tone. Sand Storm is lighter in color than Bootcamp Bronze.
Here’s a description of the colors in this palette:
- Sahara Dust: Light neutral beige (Satin)
- Cactus Thorn: Mid-tone brown bronze (Frost)
- Desert: Shimmering warm taupe (Satin)
- Carbon: Intense black (Matte)
- Sand Storm: Soft sheer warm caramel

What is my Verdict?
Overall this is a pretty good palette for creating neutral and smokey looks. I don’t think it would be my first choice of eyeshadows for everyday looks but it’s surely convenient for traveling and having the shadows and face contour cream all in one package. I do feel that the colors in this palette might complement any skin tone. However, I would’ve liked the shadows to be more pigmented and creamier.
