Why did I consider getting this Eye M Glam Highlighter?
It’s Kim’s fault. I wanted my face to look like hers (without all the ‘enhancements’ of course… lol) Isn’t she glowing in this picture!?!?
EYE M GLAM is a sheer highlighting powder that will give you the most gorgeous, golden glow. Using GIELLA mineral pigments, I custom blended EYE M GLAM while sitting on the floor in my apartment one evening, determined to come up with the best highlighter. I wanted a product that would give all my clients a consistently sheer and natural glow. Being able to use and test it on my celebrity clients for television, photo shoots and on red carpets has helped me perfect EYE M GLAM into a universal shade that is flattering on all skin tones.
How about you test it on me, Mario?!?! LOL
Wouldn’t you agree that Kim’s makeup is always impeccable? Doesn’t she look spectacular with her natural cheek glow? Well, according to Mario, her well known ‘secret’ is Eye M Glam. So I wondered, is it this product that makes her look this well? That’s exactly what made me bite the bullet and send Mario $35 bucks for his miracle highlighter that would give me Kim’s glow :)
Mario Dedivanovic, who you can follow on twitter as @MAKEUPBYMARIO is a makeup artist whose work has been featured in fashion magazines and who has been working for about a decade in the beauty industry. He does editorials, red carpets and other glamour Hollywood events with a number of celebrities. He’s recognized for being behind Kim Kardashian’s magical looks in red carpets, from what I’ve read online. And of course, he’s the creator of the Eye M Glam highlighter which he says gives Kim that natural glow.
Where did I get it?
I bought this highlighter at Giella’s website for $35. I haven’t seen it sold any other place yet.
What did I find in the package?
Unfortunately, the packaging experience was a big turn-off for me for this product. First of all, the jar actually didn’t even come packaged in a box. Not that this is a requirement to make a product great, but don’t you want to spend a little more money on the whole product experience, Mario? I also find the picture in Giella’s website to be a bit misleading because there was absolutely no label in the jar I got.
The jar does NOT list any ingredients at all. On the jar bottom there’s a sticker that reads ‘Eye M Glam Highlighter’ and a link to Giella’s website. It doesn’t even say the size of the jar or the quantity of the product, but I do think it’s a good size. Seriously, this product seems it was put together in someone’s garage (a nice garage). The labeling and the packaging was just cheap, not sure how else to say it.
Time to try it. What did it do for me?
Before I tried this, I looked at Mario’s tips for the product, which were these…
- Use EYE M GLAM on the inner corners of eyes to separate and brighten them. Apply onto your brow bone to highlight and lift
- For bullet proof eye makeup that wont move, use Magnetic Eye first, followed by EYE M GLAM
- For more intensity, wet your brush with a bit of water
- Highlight your face with EYE M GLAM. Swipe down the bridge of nose, across cheek bones and on your cupids bow
- Dust EYE M GLAM along your collar bones and dekolletage at night
- Mix it with your tinted moisturizer or foundation for an all over golden glow
So, let’s give it a shot. I can use this product to brighten the inner corners of my eyes, yes, but I don’t find it goes beyond anything else I’ve tried before, like MAC’s pigment ‘Naked’ which I thought was pretty cool. I don’t find anything special about this product that would make me use it just for that.
As a brow bone highlighter I feel it would be way to shimmery. It’s like wearing a very shimmery gold pigment in your brow bone. I didn’t really like that look on me. The only places I would use this would would be my cupids bow, the bridge of my nose and as I found on Giella.com, my ‘dekolletage’ (which apparently means cleavage in Swedish). I think my cheeks would look like a disco ball if I tried to highlight them with this product. I also tried mixing it with my foundation with the Eye M Glam to see if I could get an all over glow but I just didn’t see it.
Am I don’t something wrong? I don’t know why I couldn’t get this product to work for me :-( If you have some suggestions that would help me here, please please please leave them in the comments section, so I can get a better return on investment!
What is the Verdict?
Unless I can figure out how to look like Kim Kardashian soon (sarcasm intended) using this product, I don’t think I would buy it again. Eye M Glam Highlighter come in a big sized jar so I don’t think I’ll be running out any time soon, anyway. I don’t have many other highlighters to compare this with but Copacabana from NARS is currently still my favorite.
I had high expectations for this, the highlighter to make all highlighters envious. I would’ve liked it to be a bit more finely milled and less colored. I found it to be very ‘goldish’ pigmented as well. The good thing is, if it does work for you and you like it, you only need to use a little bit for results so in that case I think it would be worth the money. If you rarely use it it could last for years. I like the shimmer I get on my nose, cupids bow and ‘dekolletage’ but I’m not fond of it for the cheeks or the brow bone. If you’ve had a similar or different experience, I’d love to hear about it!
