Why did I consider getting this?
I have been a Tarte fan since 2010 when I first tried the Jewelry Box they released for the Holiday season. Since then, the brand has grown on me quickly given they use natural ingredients which have been great for my sensitive skin. When they first released the TrueBlood palette, I hesitated. I convinced myself I really didn’t need “yet another eyeshadow palette”. I resisted and resisted and resisted (you’re probably laughing at how futile this is). Last month, tarte had a sale with 30% off their website and I thought this is it!.. my time to get it… BUT, they excluded all the items from the TrueBlood collection (smart sales people, right?). So, I didn’t get it then as well. One day, I was browsing my Sephora store and voilà, there’s the palette again, creepily staring at me. Third time’s the charm for me, so being the sucker I am, I could resist no longer. You perfectly understand, right?
Where can you get it?
I got mine at Sephora.com.
What did I find in the package?
This package is super sexy and sultry! It all begins with a corset laced top.
When you open the box you get 17 eyeshadows (0.07 oz). It comes with a little plastic clear covering that actually has the names of the eyeshadows which is ideal if you are doing makeup tutorials.
On the bottom there’s a drawer with an embossed graphic that reads “Open After Dark” (how cool is that!). Inside, you can find get a True Blood™ Lifted Natural Eye Primer (0.08 oz), True Blood™ Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara in Black (0.1 oz) and True Blood™ EmphasEYES Aqua-Gel Eyeliner in Black (0.003 oz). Opposite the eyeshadows under the cover is a good size mirror. The packaging is absolutely fantastic!
The package also has a mini brochure inside for reference. The first side has all the colors along with their names. Very, very useful again for tutorials.
Inside you can find 4 different cool looks which you can try out with the palette, along with some instructions. Looks are called Vampy Vixen, Not Your Average Waitress, Vamp Glam, and Luminous Fairy.
Time to try it. What did it do for me?
Putting it all together, you have a wide choice of eyeshadows, from matte and shimmery to straight-on glittery. Colors range from neutrals (which I love and are good for everyday) to more specifics (a green, a purple, a cranberry, and deeper colors like blackened grey and dark brown). The darker colors do require some layering in my experience.
The colors can be combined for almost any kind of look. You can go really natural and bare, super vampy, or as most people probably will, someplace in between. A couple of the shades are very glittery, and they flake off easily, so they will leave glitter on your cheeks. Otherwise, I have no complaints. They are richly pigmented and a little goes a long way. They blend easily, and other than the glitter, they do stay put.
I liked the primer, but I am in love with my Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and wouldn’t trade it. If you don’t have another one, it will do. I just feel the Too Faced one makes eyeshadows brighter and last longer. My blog, my opinion hahaha!
The mascara is my favorite mascara at the moment. It’s light weight, but at the same time it does extend the eyelashes a lot. It also makes my eyelashes look fuller and just plain beautiful. I do wish they didn’t include the eyeliner but instead a FUll size mascara. The eyeliner to me was just meh. I’ve never really had luck with tarte’s EmphasEYES eyeliner. They break, the twisting mechanism stops working and they smudge all over the place. At least on me, maybe I have the EmphasEYES curse. It may be different on other people, who knows.

What is the Verdict?
This palette is purrrrfect for creating gorgeous smokey eyes. If you are into collecting eyeshadow palettes, this is a truly unique one. The colors are bold, to me they scream fall/winter. The texture of the eyeshadows vary, though. Some are really smooth, but others crumbled after I just touched them with the brush. I love Tarte’s Lights, Camara, Lashes Mascara. It’s one of my all time favs but the size is too small! The eye primer is good but I don’t think I’d buy it by itself. I prefer my Too Faced Shadow Insurance.
Overall, I do recommend this palette for doing a lot of bold colored, fun looks. Great if you want to go out there and draw True Blood! ;-)
